If children are not reading at grade-level by the end of 3rd grade, they are three times more likely to become part of the juvenile justice system”. – LaDonna Harris, Alameda County’s Chief Probation Officer

Experience Corps Bay Area (ECBA) helps older adults mentor K-3rd grade students to increase their literacy skills, which in turn improves their school and life performance. Studies have shown that when students don’t excel in literacy, their long-term chances of disciplinary and academic struggles increase. ECBA helps fill the gap between the needs of our students and the demands on our public schools.

We are expanding into four new schools during the 2014-2015 school year in the Bay Area. We need people who can volunteer or Adopt a Student in the year ahead. For as little as $25/month or four hours/week you can change the life of a student in our local school forever!
